I am an active retiree who still undertakes landscape, nature, architectural, commercial, and portrait photography for clients and charitable entities. I learned photography through seminars, professional associations, camera clubs, photography competitions, personal assignments, and initially in my father Raymond S. Kahle’s home darkroom before I was out of elementary school. In high school I sent sports photos to the local newspaper along with event articles. While in the US Navy I was an aerial photographic interpretation officer, and later Geography Editor for Encyclopedia Britannica, Jr.

Photo competitions provided an excellent opportunity for me to see how my work compared to that of other photographers and to learn how to use composition and lighting in order to produce photos with interest and visual impact. In camera club competitions, I was Photographer of the Year three times with the Bowie-Crofton Camera Club. In Maryland Professional Photographer’s Association and PPA national competitions I won ten Fujifilm Masterpiece awards, 4 Kodak Gallery awards, two American Society of Photographers Elite awards, and one national Kodak Gallery Elite award.

Competition in the MPPA was a special interest and emphasis, having won Illustrative Photographer of the Year several times, Commercial Photographer of the Year once, eight Best of Show ribbons, and four Sweepstakes Awards for having the highest average score for four print entries at the year-end convention.

Ten of my images were included in an Eastman Kodak company 2007 calendar entitled "Colors by Nature".

I was recognized as a Master of Photography at the Professional Photographer's of America national convention in Atlantic City in 2002. The Kodak Gallery Elite award was received at the PPA convention in New Orleans in 2005.

I am currently a member of the Maryland Federation of Art and have participated in many juried shows with this organization and others.
